Virtus Segafredo Bologna has officially announced that Justin Holiday, the former NBA champion and veteran small forward, will not continue with the club beyond his three-month contract, which concluded after a Serie A win over Varese on April 27, 2025. The 36-year-old American, who signed with Virtus in February 2025 to fill the void left by Will Clyburn, brought his defensive versatility, leadership, and NBA experience to the team, but his contract will not be renewed.
Holiday, who played 703 NBA games across teams like the Golden State Warriors (where he won a title in 2015), Denver Nuggets, and others, made an immediate impact in Italy’s LBA UnipolSai, scoring 14 points in a 98-66 rout of Bertram Derthona Tortona. However, his EuroLeague contributions were limited, with just 3 points across two appearances. During his time in Bologna, Holiday embraced the city’s passionate basketball culture, noting, “It’s nice to be here in Bologna, a city that breathes basketball,” and aimed to provide consistency and defensive presence.
With Virtus Bologna sitting 16th in the EuroLeague standings (7-17 record) and fighting for a playoff spot, the club is now looking to other roster options as they await Will Clyburn’s potential return. Holiday’s departure marks the end of a brief but impactful chapter for the storied club. We wish Justin the best in his future endeavors.
