Panathinaikos Athens has secured a three-year contract with guard Vassilis Toliopoulos, as confirmed by Eurohoops sources on May 17, 2025. The 28-year-old Greek star, who has been a standout for Aris Thessaloniki, returns to the EuroLeague after a productive 2024-25 season, averaging 13.7 points, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 rebounds in the EuroCup, alongside 13.8 points in the Greek League regular season. Toliopoulos’s signing bolsters Panathinaikos’s backcourt as they aim to strengthen their roster for the upcoming EuroLeague campaign.

Toliopoulos showcased his scoring prowess in his final game for Aris, dropping 35 points and 6 assists in a win over Maroussi BC, highlighting his readiness for top-tier competition. Having previously played in the EuroLeague with Olympiacos Piraeus—Panathinaikos’s archrival—from 2015 to 2018, Toliopoulos brings experience and familiarity to the competition. His career trajectory, including stints with PAOK and a breakout period with Aris where he averaged 12.8 points in the 2022-23 Greek League season, positions him as a key addition for the Greens under coach Ergin Ataman.

This move marks a significant step for Toliopoulos, who will now face the challenge of performing for one of Greece’s basketball giants while competing against his former club, Olympiacos, in the EuroLeague. For Panathinaikos, the signing reflects their strategy of blending seasoned Greek talent with their international stars, aiming to reclaim their spot among Europe’s elite after finishing 9th in the 2024-25 EuroLeague season (15-19 record).
