Besiktas Fibabanka gets to sign a one-year contract extension with their key player Jonah Mathews, despite higher official offers from both Virtus Bologna and KK Crvena Zvezda, as reported by Yağız Sabuncuoğlu on X.
Statistics from 2024-25 season
Jonah Mathews is the top scorer on his team; averaging 15.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 0.9 steal per game in the Turkish Basketball Super League and he is doing this with %45.7 field goal percentage. He led Besiktas Fibabanka to the finals and averaged over 20 points in the series against Fenerbahce Beko.
He averaged similar numbers in Eurocup season; 15.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 26 minutes. Besiktas has advanced to the Round of 16, but they were eliminated 96-86 against Cedevita Olimpija, which ended their Eurocup season.
Decision to stay and the future
Besiktas Fibabanka did a great job, keeping their top scorer player in the team and proving that they will be contenders for the championship next year as well, while Mathews showed his commitment to his team by ignoring strong interest and rejecting higher offers from the Euroleague clubs. The American guard is preparing for his 3rd year with Besiktas. He is still 27 years old, Euroleague and NBA teams will keep an eye on him in his career.
