Buzz Sport sources confirmed, that Georgios Papagiannis, the Greek center, has agreed to a one-year deal with Anadolu Efes, marking coach Igor Kokoskov’s first signing for the 2025-26 season. After failing to secure a new contract with Panathinaikos BC, Papagiannis leaves AS Monaco, where he averaged 7.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks in 16:30 minutes, opting for Efes over a lower offer from Panathinaikos, as Efes replaces Dan Oturu, who joined Hapoel Tel Aviv.

Role and Background

Papagiannis, who saw limited minutes at Monaco under coach Vassilis Spanoulis due to competition from Daniel Theis and Mam Jaiteh, brings EuroLeague experience from his time with Panathinaikos and Monaco. His move to Istanbul follows Efes’ recent three-year deal with Kokoskov, aiming to rebuild after losing Oturu, whose multi-year contract with Hapoel was confirmed, signaling Efes’ intent to strengthen their frontcourt.

Implications for EuroLeague

Papagiannis’ signing bolsters Efes’ roster for the 20-team EuroLeague, where they’ll face rivals like Fenerbahce, who extended Scottie Wilbekin,  and new entrants like Dubai BC, who signed Mam Jaiteh. His defensive presence (1.3 blocks per game) could challenge other EuroLeague teams.
