Moshe Barda’s report, confirmed by Chema de Lucas on June 6, 2025, states that Fenerbahce, the 2025 EuroLeague champions, have secured a 1+1 year contract extension with Scottie Wilbekin, who missed the entire 2024-25 season due to an ACL injury. The 32-year-old guard, who holds a Turkish passport, will play as a domestic player, strengthening Fenerbahce’s roster as they aim to defend their title in the expanded 20-team EuroLeague.
Injury and Recovery
Wilbekin suffered a complete ACL tear in his right knee during Round 1 of the 2024-25 EuroLeague season against Olympiacos, and underwent surgery in October 2024, missing the entire campaign. Despite his absence, Fenerbahce won the EuroLeague in Abu Dhabi, and Wilbekin, expected to return by September 2025, remains a key piece for coach Sarunas Jasikevicius.
Fenerbahce’s EuroLeague Ambitions
Wilbekin, who played for Darussafaka (2015-18) and Maccabi Tel Aviv (2018-22) before joining Fenerbahce in 2022, brings EuroLeague experience with career averages of 14.2 points. His extension, alongside Micic’s potential arrival and Nigel Hayes-Davis’ retention, positions Fenerbahce to challenge rivals like Anadolu Efes, led by Igor Kokoškov, as they aim for back-to-back titles in a competitive field with teams like Dubai BC.
