FC Barcelona to Part Ways with Chimezie Metu After Achilles Injury

FC Barcelona will part ways with Chimezie Metu following his Achilles tendon rupture in March 2025, according to Sportando. The 27-year-old Nigerian center, who joined Barça in the summer of 2024 from the NBA (most recently with the Detroit Pistons), played only 29 games in the 2024-25 EuroLeague and Liga ACB seasons, averaging 8.2 points and 4.1 rebounds before the severe injury sidelined him.

Metu, who spent six years in the NBA (2018-24) with teams like the San Antonio Spurs and Sacramento Kings, faces an uncertain future as he isn’t expected to return to play until March 2026. Barcelona, which was eliminated by AS Monaco in the playoffs, is restructuring its roster and has already signed Tornike Shengelia as a replacement.
