Ejiofor “EJ” Onu has officially returned to BMA365 Bamberg Baskets, signing a one-year contract for the 2025-26 season. The 25-year-old American center, standing at 211cm and weighing 109kg, previously played for Bamberg in 2023-24 and comes back after a championship-winning stint with Legia Warsaw, finalizing the club’s roster planning with a familiar face.

Championship Success and Versatile Stats

After a brief and unremarkable spell with CB Breogán in the ACB (2.0 points, 0.7 rebounds in 5 minutes over 6 games), Onu revitalized his career with Legia Warsaw, clinching the Polish championship—56 years after their last title. In 32 games, he averaged 4.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks in 13:48 minutes, while shining in the European North Basketball League with 14.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in 21:18 minutes over 4 games.

Tactical Anchor for Bamberg’s Defense

Head Coach Anton Gavel praises Onu’s return, highlighting his potential to be the defensive anchor at the five position. His prior Bamberg stint (8.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.2 blocks in 17:27 minutes over 34 games) and a remarkable college career at Shawnee State—where he set a record with 13 blocks in a game—underscore his shot-blocking prowess, expected to elevate Bamberg’s interior defense in the upcoming season.
