Bayern Munich Eyes Rokas Jokubaitis Amid Potential Departures

Bayern Munich capped a strong 2024-25 EuroLeague season by securing a Play-In spot after months in playoff contention, a performance that has drawn attention to their roster from bigger clubs. Carsen Edwards, with his record-breaking 26 points in a single quarter against Maccabi, is a hot name on the market, while Devin Booker has significantly raised his value this season. Despite a recent Game 1 playoff win over SYNTAINICS MBC (78-60), Bayern faces challenges retaining key players, though Vladimir Lučić is expected to renew, having rejected Partizan’s offer (as reported earlier on BuzzSport.de).

Bayern’s roster includes core players like Shabazz Napier (contract until 2025 +1), Nick Weiler-Babb (2026), and Andreas Obst (2026), but Edwards (2025 +1) and Booker (2025) could depart if lucrative offers arrive. Encestando.es indicate Bayern is targeting Lithuanian guard Rokas Jokubaitis from Maccabi Tel Aviv, who has a €300,000 buyout clause—affordable for Bayern. Jokubaitis, averaging 8.4 points and 4.2 assists this season, could help fill the perimeter void if Edwards leaves, though his lack of connection to Maccabi amid their exiled EuroLeague games makes him a likely mover. Bayern also needs a center to replace Booker if he goes to Olimpia Milano.

Bayern’s style under coach Gordon Herbert relies heavily on three-point shooting—they led the EuroLeague with 32 attempts per game and shot 39.2%, second only to Armani Milano. Losing shooters like Edwards, Obst, or Weiler-Babb could disrupt this identity, making Jokubaitis’s potential signing crucial, though he alone may not fully replace Edwards’ scoring. Retaining Booker, a key interior presence, will be vital for balance, but Bayern’s front office must act swiftly to maintain their competitive edge in the EuroLeague and BBL playoffs.
