Arizona Lands Top International Prospect Sidi Gueye for 2025 Season

In a major coup for Arizona basketball, 17-year-old Senegalese forward Sidi Gueye, one of the top international prospects in his age group, has committed to the Wildcats, as reported by ESPN. The 6-foot-11 standout, known for his elite defensive skills and a staggering 7-foot-4 wingspan, chose Arizona over other top programs, citing head coach Tommy Lloyd’s proven track record with international talent.

Gueye, who made his EuroLeague and Spanish ACB debuts with Real Madrid in October, will be among the youngest players in college basketball next season. “Coach Lloyd is one of the top coaches in college, and he has coached many international players before,” Gueye told ESPN. “He made me feel comfortable and showed me how I can improve and produce in his system.”

Hailing from Senegal, Gueye only began playing basketball in 2019 before moving to Spain in 2021 to join Real Madrid’s youth system. His defensive versatility, often guarding smaller perimeter players, and prolific shot-blocking at the European junior level make him a unique addition to Arizona’s roster. “To play for Real Madrid was amazing,” Gueye said. “It is exciting to go to the United States for college, and so many more top players are coming over, making the decision easier.”
