Omari Moore is on the brink of joining Valencia Basket, with BasketNews sources reporting, that the 24-year-old American guard’s move from the South East Melbourne Phoenix via a buyout is set to reshape the team’s backcourt. This development is likely to force Chris Jones out, despite the 29-year-old having a contract for the 2025-26 season, as Valencia prioritizes a younger, dynamic lineup to compete in the EuroLeague.
Moore’s Breakout and Jones’ Struggles
Moore’s standout season in Turkiye’s Basketball Super League saw him average an impressive 15.7 points on 55.7% two-point and 32.1% three-point shooting, alongside 5.3 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.6 blocks in 34 minutes per game. His 34-point explosion against Fenerbahce and double-doubles like 15 points and 13 rebounds against Yalovaspor underscore his all-around game.
In contrast, Jones, after a solid three-year tenure at Valencia marked by early success, struggled significantly in the second half of the 2024-25 season, with declining efficiency and minutes, paving the way for his probable move to Hapoel Tel Aviv or Crvena zvezda, according to Buzz Sport sources.
Valencia’s Backcourt Shake-Up and Future Plans
With Moore’s 1.98m frame bringing versatility and playmaking, Valencia is targeting Darius Thompson from Anadolu Efes, who may leave the Turkish club, to further revamp their backcourt.
Jones’ departure, after contributing 10.8 points and 4.2 assists over three seasons, signals a strategic shift toward youth and athleticism. The buyout from Melbourne, facilitated per Olgun Uluc, allows Valencia to integrate Moore seamlessly, while the club explores additional options to maintain EuroLeague competitiveness, balancing experience with emerging talent.
