Žalgiris Kaunas has appointed Tomas Masiulis as their new head coach, signing a 2+1 contract, following Andrea Trinchieri’s exit earlier this week, as officially announced on June 28, 2025. The former Žalgiris player and Fenerbahce assistant under Šarūnas Jasikevičius returns to lead his hometown club.
Coaching Journey and Player Legacy
Masiulis, who began coaching in 2009 after retiring, led Žalgiris-2 (2011-2018) and assisted Jasikevičius at Žalgiris, Barcelona, and Fenerbahce, contributing to the 2024 EuroLeague title. As a player, he won the 1999 EuroLeague with Žalgiris and played seven seasons (1995-2002), plus a brief 2008 return.
Tactical Fit and Club Vision
Masiulis’ deep Žalgiris roots and recent EuroLeague success with Fenerbahce position him to blend local knowledge with modern tactics. His 2+1 deal signals a long-term commitment, aiming to rebuild after Trinchieri’s tenure, leveraging his assistant experience under a championship-winning staff.
